Growing on the Richmond Greenway!
Groundwork Launches Neighborhood Tree Planting Program
For 2013 and beyond, Groundwork Richmond will be working to help improve Richmond’s tree canopy, particularly in our community’s under‐treed neighborhoods. Working closely with the City, we are reaching out to residents who might want to “adopt” a tree and care for it during the first few years. During the Fall and Winter, we hold “Tree Parties” to plant trees for those who have agreed to adopt a tree.

This year, we will create a vision and design with youth and community members, and install improvements like trees, community art, benches, and other amenities – limited only by our imaginations – and funding, of course!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, January, 2011. Local agencies and community members work on the Richmond Greenway, showing the community spirit that will turn this former rail line into a beautiful and useful Richmond park. Urban Tilth led local agencies and activists in organizing and conducting this annual event. See news and events for info about the January 2013 event.
